This week’s Frenzied Friday pick is short, savage, and ready to punch you in the face. Nails – You Will Never Be One of Us clocks in at just 21 minutes, but it hits harder than most albums twice its length.
Let’s be clear: these songs aren’t meant to be unpacked with quiet contemplation. They’re meant to burst into your ears, ignite your adrenaline, and vanish in a cloud of distortion before you even realize what happened.
💥 A Breakdown (or…what I could write before the next song started):
- You Will Never Be One of Us – This one feels like a street fight in 4/4. Exhilarating and gone before you catch your breath.
- Friend to All – Sprinkles in some mini-breakdowns between blasts of chaos.
- Made to Make You Fail – Features a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it solo that squeals like a demon doing a burnout.
- Life Is a Death Sentence – A highlight. Slows down just enough midway to become menacing. I could almost hear the vocals—almost.
- Violence Is Forever – The guitars melt down into absolute madness by the end. Bonus points for lasting over three minutes.
- Savage Intolerance – Too fast to type during. Just trust me—it’s savage.
- In Pain – This track says, “what if half the song was just a solo?” Nails said “yes.”
- Parasite – Under a minute. Riffs so good I wish they stuck around a little longer.
- Into Quietus – Shockingly groovy. Like a hardcore band decided to swing for a second.
- They Come Crawling Back – At 8+ minutes, this feels like the band tried to cram four songs into one. Starts slow and haunting (is that a keyboard?), dips into eerie sound experimentation, and ends on a long fade that leaves you a little rattled.
🔊 Final Thoughts
The whole album sounds like it was recorded inside a dumpster during a riot—but I mean that in the best way possible. The vocals are buried, the mix is chaotic, and the songs are shorter than most TV commercials. But damn if it doesn’t work.
If you need motivation, this album will light a fire under you. Just keep in mind: you’ll need like four albums’ worth of Nails to keep it going for more than half an hour.
Still, this one’s a brutal blast of adrenaline—and sometimes that’s all you really need.
