Note: I wrote this because I’m sick of pretending any of this is normal. If this hits you, share it. If it pisses you off, even better, stay mad. That means you’re still awake.

This isn’t left vs. right. This is power vs. the people.

They keep trying to sell us a lie: that this is just another partisan tug-of-war, business as usual, a “difference of political opinion.” That’s bullshit. This isn’t about Democrats versus Republicans anymore. This is about a growing authoritarian movement trying to take hold in America, and a political and corporate system too weak, too corrupt, or too bought-off to stop it.

And honestly? If we stay on this path, we’re heading for a second revolutionary war. And knowing America, it’ll be fought by people in inflatable animal costumes livestreaming it for clicks. That’s how absurd things have become.

Trump didn’t invent this sickness, he just gave it a costume, a slogan, and an army willing to trade freedom for a flag-wrapped fantasy. And now we’re here. In 2025. Watching people in suits excuse criminal behavior, watching judges get threatened, watching media billionaires push propaganda while pretending it’s patriotism.

I didn’t go to the protests yesterday, I had to work. But I watched. Millions of us did. We saw the streets fill across all 50 states. We saw the photos from D.C. where the crowds dwarfed Trump’s own inauguration turnout. We saw what they’re trying to downplay.

And let’s be clear: I’m only talking about yesterday’s No Kings protests, not every march before, not inflated totals, not history lessons. Just one day in America, millions of people showing up against authoritarian bullshit.

And already, we’re being told we “don’t represent America.”

That’s funny. Because it looked like America to me.

Authoritarians thrive on division and despair

They want us hopeless. They want us isolated. They want us screaming at each other online while they quietly change laws, purge judges, and call reality “fake news” until it snaps. They want us numb. Because numb people don’t fight back.

They say “pick a side.” I have. I’m on the side that still believes in freedom of speech without fear. I’m on the side that believes elections should be decided by votes, not violence. I’m on the side that believes no man, no matter how wealthy, no matter how loud, gets to rise above the law in this country.

I’m not choosing a party. I’m choosing the country.

Protests show the numbers. Boycotts bring the pain.

Protests matter. They show how many of us are awake. But you know what really terrifies the people trying to buy and sell our democracy?

Consequences.

Economic pressure is one of the most powerful tools regular people have, and history proves it. Corporations and media networks don’t fear morality. They fear lost revenue. Pulling your money is louder than any chant.

Don’t take my word for it, here are receipts:

  • Glenn Beck – Fox News: Advertisers abandoned his show after organized campaigns. He lost over 80 sponsors and was forced off the network.[1]
  • Bill O’Reilly – Fox News: After reports of misconduct, sponsor boycotts exploded, over 60 companies pulled ads. Fox fired him shortly after.[2]
  • Disney / ABC – Jimmy Kimmel: Corporate and viewer backlash pressured Disney and ABC to intervene and protect Kimmel from cancellation attempts, economic pressure brought him back on air.[3]
  • North Carolina “Bathroom Bill” (HB2): Boycotts from the NBA, PayPal, Deutsche Bank, and others stripped the state of millions in revenue, forcing a repeal.[4]

That’s not theory. That’s power.

They only win if we give up

Every time someone says “nothing we do matters,” an oligarch smiles. That hopelessness? That’s not realism. That’s surrender. They want us to think we’re alone. We’re not. They want us to think we’re surrounded. We’re not. They want us to think we can’t fight back.

We can. And we don’t need permission. We just need consistency.

Here’s how we fight without waiting for anyone

No fantasy. No hashtags. No bullshit. Just action:

  • Boycott companies funding authoritarian politicians
    – Check donations at OpenSecrets.org. Vote with your wallet. Cold, targeted, relentless.
  • Cancel toxic media
    – Propaganda doesn’t survive without ad dollars. If a company funds lies, walk.
  • Show up, locally
    – School boards, city council, state reps. That’s where power is being stolen first.
  • Move people, not trolls
    – Stop fighting bots online. Talk to persuadable real humans. Win with reality.
  • Defend democracy, physically if necessary
    – Peacefully. Legally. Relentlessly. Authoritarians thrive when good people stay home.

None of that requires hope. Just spine.

Final thought

America isn’t dying. It’s being smothered slowly by people who think they own it. People who think patriotism means obedience. People who think worshipping a politician is the same as loving a country.

It ends when we end it. When we stop playing spectator and start applying pressure. When we stop being afraid of being loud. When we stop letting them divide us by red and blue and remember what the hell red, white, and blue was supposed to stand for.

I’m choosing the country.
Not a party.
Not a politician.
Not a cult.

You in?
